Auditory perception stability evaluation comparing binaural and loudspeaker Ambisonic presentations of dynamic virtual concert auralizations

چکیده

Auralizations can be computed in a variety of ways as well rendered over different sound reproduction systems. They are used design tool architectural projects and for fundamental studies on spatial perception cognition, hence requiring reliability confidence the obtained results. This study assessed this through auditory stability by comparing perceived differences between two rendering systems given set second-order Ambisonic auralizations: virtual loudspeaker binaural head-tracked headphones versus 32-loudspeaker rendering. Anechoic extracts jazz pieces have been recorded presented various acoustic conditions these systems, evaluated following criteria: Readability, distance, listener envelopment (LEV), apparent source width (ASW), reverberance, loudness. Results show that consistent significant scene comparably across However, effects system were observed ASW, LEV, reverberance some configurations.

On Studying Auditory Distance Perception in Concert Halls with Multichannel Auralizations

Virtual acoustics and auralizations have been previously used to study the perceptual properties of concert hall acoustics in a descriptive profiling framework. The results have indicated that the apparent auditory distance to the orchestra might play a crucial role in enhancing the listening experience and the appraisal of hall acoustics. However, it is unknown how the acoustics of the hall in...

Effects of virtual acoustics on dynamic auditory distance perception

Sound propagation encompasses various acoustic phenomena including reverberation. Current virtual acoustic methods ranging from parametric filters to physically accurate solvers can simulate reverberation with varying degrees of fidelity. The effects of reverberant sounds generated using different propagation algorithms on acoustic distance perception are investigated. In particular, two classe...

Localization of 3D Ambisonic Recordings and Ambisonic Virtual Sources

The accurate recording and reproduction of real 3D sound environments is still a challenging task. In this paper, the two most established 3D microphones are evaluated: the Soundfield SPS200 and MH Acoustics’ Eigenmike EM32, according to 1 and 4 order Ambisonics. They are compared to virtual encoded sound sources of the same orders in a localization test. For the reproduction, an Ambisonics sys...
